About Us

"Everyone deserves a chance to celebrate themselves."

"Fansago" (fawn-saw-go) is a word defined by the community to be an adjective to describe an intense feeling of wholesomeness, hospitality, love, and community. Our chats online embody exactly that, and so do our FurMeets. Here at FurryFansago, we're hoping to provide Kansans a safe place to connect, share, create, and meet other like-minded folks as well as provide a place where people can be themselves.

Our main mission, however, is the community that we're a part of.  FurryFansago looks to exceed expectations in our community and be a leading force of change, donate money to local businesses, and give back to Kansas. No matter who you are, if you chat with us or come to one of our events, you're a part of our growing family. We love every one of you. Let's face it, there's a little bit of furry in all of us; from the Loony Toons generation to the Zootopia fan clubs. Every furry, and everyone, deserves a chance to celebrate themselves.

Our Story

Our founder had a vision, a connected furry community not only in the big city but also in the rural areas as well. He believed in the idea that all furries should have access to the fandom in real life, not just those who lived in or near a big city.

This is why he founded FurryFansago, to let everyone know that all furries are a part of the community, no matter where they live. It is in the vision of FurryFansago that we'll go statewide so that Kansas furries get the love and support they need and restore the hospitality, kindness, and love that is at the heart of Kansas tradition.

We all share the same goal here at FurryFansago, where we work every day to continue "Bringing the Fandom to You"!

The furry fandom, an often misunderstood subculture, has captured the hearts and imaginations of individuals from all walks of life. This unique group of enthusiasts is united by their love for anthropomorphic animals and the creativity they bring to their imaginative world. From artists and writers to performers and fans, the furry community embraces diversity and offers a safe space for self-expression. In this comprehensive guide, we dive into the fascinating aspects of the furry fandom, debunking misconceptions and highlighting the incredible sense of community that defines this subculture. What is the Furry Fandom?

Defining the Furry Fandom

At its core, the furry fandom is a community of people who share a passion for anthropomorphic animals. These are animals who possess human-like characteristics such as the ability to talk, walk on two legs, and express human emotions. The fandom is incredibly diverse, encompassing fans of various forms of media, artists, writers, performers, and even those who create their own unique furry personas known as "fursonas."

A Brief History of the Furry Fandom

The furry fandom can trace its roots back to the early 1980s when fans of anthropomorphic characters began gathering at science fiction and comic conventions. Over time, these gatherings evolved into specialized furry conventions, where fans could come together to celebrate their shared interest in anthropomorphic art and entertainment. With the rise of the internet, the furry fandom gained greater visibility and expanded rapidly, attracting fans from across the globe.

The Furry Genre

The furry genre is not limited to any specific type of media or storytelling. Anthropomorphic characters can be found in a wide range of forms, including cartoons, comics, novels, movies, video games, and even commercials. The appeal of these characters often lies in their unique blend of human and animal traits, which allows for endless creative possibilities and a diverse array of stories and experiences.

The Furry Community

The Virtual Society of Furries

The furry community exists both online and offline, with members connecting through social media, forums, chat rooms, and virtual environments. These digital spaces provide a platform for furries to share their artwork, stories, and role-playing adventures, fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging among members. Virtual worlds such as MUCKs and Second Life have become popular meeting places for furries, offering immersive experiences that allow fans to interact with one another as their fursonas.

Furry Lifestyle and Personal Expression

While some furries simply enjoy the creative aspects of the fandom, others may feel a deeper connection to their chosen animal species. This personal identification can manifest in various ways, such as adopting an animal-inspired persona or even incorporating elements of the furry lifestyle into their everyday lives. The furry community provides a supportive environment for individuals to explore these connections and deepen their understanding of their own identities.

Creativity and Artistic Expression

Art plays a central role in the furry fandom, with many fans creating their own illustrations, comics, and stories inspired by anthropomorphic characters. The diverse range of artistic styles and subject matter within the furry community reflects the vast array of interests and passions among its members. From wholesome, family-friendly content to more mature themes, the furry genre offers something for everyone.

Sociability and Inclusiveness

The furry community prides itself on its open-mindedness and acceptance of diverse perspectives and identities. This inclusiveness extends to sexual orientation, gender identity, and other aspects of personal expression, making the fandom a welcoming space for people from all backgrounds. Friendships formed within the furry community often provide a sense of understanding and support that may be difficult to find elsewhere.

Addressing Common Misconceptions and Controversies

The Sexual Aspect of the Furry Fandom

Although sex and adult themes can be present in some aspects of the furry fandom, it is essential to recognize that this is not the primary focus of the community. While some members may engage in adult-oriented roleplay or consume erotic furry content, this represents only a small fraction of the fandom's overall activities. The furry community is, first and foremost, a space for creative expression and shared appreciation of anthropomorphic characters.

Fetishism and the Furry Community

The furry community has been the subject of numerous misconceptions and stereotypes, many of which focus on the idea that its members are primarily driven by sexual fetishes. While fetishism does exist within the community, it is important to note that the prevalence of fetishists is relatively low, and their interests are not representative of the fandom as a whole.

Defining and Debating the Furry Genre

The furry genre is often subject to debate and discussion, with some members of the community advocating for strict definitions and limitations on what constitutes a furry character. However, the true appeal of the furry fandom lies in its broad and inclusive nature, which allows for a vast array of creative interpretations and expressions.

The Misrepresentation of Furries in Media

The furry community has often been misrepresented and stigmatized by the mainstream media, with coverage frequently focusing on sensationalist aspects of the fandom. This has led to widespread misconceptions about the true nature of the furry fandom, perpetuating negative stereotypes and misunderstandings. In recent years, however, more balanced and accurate portrayals of the furry community have begun to emerge, helping to challenge these misconceptions and foster greater understanding and acceptance.

Furry Hate Groups and Discrimination

Unfortunately, the furry fandom has also faced discrimination and hostility from some corners of society. Furry hate groups have formed with the sole purpose of ridiculing and harassing members of the community, often based on misguided assumptions and misinformation. It is essential to recognize these groups for what they are: Sources of ignorance and intolerance that do not represent the true spirit of the furry fandom.

The Mainstreaming of the Furry Fandom

As the furry fandom continues to grow and gain recognition, questions of mainstream acceptance and integration have become increasingly relevant. Some fans worry that the increased visibility of the fandom may lead to a loss of its unique charm and identity, while others argue that greater acceptance could help dispel misconceptions and foster a more inclusive and diverse community.

The Intersection of the Furry Fandom and Popular Culture

Anthropomorphic characters have long been a staple of popular culture, from classic cartoons and comic strips to modern movies and video games. This widespread appeal has led to a growing overlap between the furry fandom and mainstream entertainment, with fans of all ages finding common ground in their shared love of anthropomorphic characters.

The Impact of Technology on the Furry Community

Advancements in technology have played a significant role in the growth and development of the furry fandom, providing new platforms for fans to connect and share their interests. From virtual worlds and online forums to social media and digital art, the possibilities for creative expression and collaboration within the furry community have never been greater.

The Future of the Furry Fandom

As the furry fandom continues to evolve and expand, it is difficult to predict what the future may hold for this unique and diverse community. However, one thing is certain: the passion, creativity, and camaraderie that define the furry fandom will continue to thrive, offering a welcoming and inspiring space for fans to explore their imaginations and forge lasting connections.
